Sri Lanka is a nation full of cultural treasures, natural beauty, exotic beaches and wonderful people. During the recent past this country has remain mostly untouched from tourists. A long ending civil war was the main reason affecting the tourism industry in Sri Lanka. But slowly and slowly Sri Lanka is rising on world map as a tourist destination. Last year it was rated at the number one tourist destination by New York Times.

You can also realize the beauty of the Sri Lanka by the fact that when one of the leading bollywood super stars Salman Khan participated in an award function, held in Sri Lanka, he was so fascinated by the beauty of Sri Lankan beaches and other tourists destinations that he asked one of his producer to change the shooting location of his upcoming movie to Sri Lanka. I am not sure if the shooting of that movie has begun but definitely Sri Lanka will make its debut in bollywood soon and this will further increase the tourism in the country.

What you can enjoy as a tourists in Sri Lanka:

1. Opportunity to experience wild life

2. Sri Lanka food

3. See some of the great architectures

4. Sri Lankan beaches

5. National Museum

6. Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic

7. Royal Rock Temple at Dambulla

8. Tea Gardens

9. Shopping

When to visit: Sri Lanka weather is mostly tropical and the country see a very distinct 2 monsoon (rainy) seasons. Frist monsoon season called Yala monsoon is from May to August and second monsoon called the Maha monsoon season is from October to January. The Yala monsoon brings rains to the southwestern half of the country while the Maha monsoon is responsible for rain in North and East par of the island.

Normally December to March is the peak tourist season in Sri Lanka when majority of the tourists visit the West coast of the country, however one can visit the country from April to September as well to visit the south coast and hill country. For Buddhist followers July August is the best time as they can attend the 10 day long festival at temple of Sacred Tooth Relic.

However since this is a beach climate country you can enjoy the Sri Lankan beaches in the off season as well and enjoy the less crowd, cheaper air fares and hotel accommodation etc.

I’ve also posted some wallpapers and pictures of Sri Lanka, I am confident this will prompt you all to visit this place.
The park is a dual World Heritage site, protected for both its natural and cultural significance. Herb groves and beech forests give way to barren tussock-dotted desert and stark grey lava flow mountains slope away from their snowy peaks to broad plateaus where hot springs steam and bubble. Beside the breathtaking views, Tongariro National Park also provides a range of adventures through all seasons. Two of New Zealand’s largest ski fields, Whakapapa and Turoa, are on the magnificent slopes of Mount Ruapehu and skiing and snowboarding here has the added attraction of fun on an active volcano.

The Department of Conservation is actively working in the park to create a pest-free sanctuary that will support greater numbers of kaka, kakariki and bush robins, as well as giant snails and native bats.

8. Te Urewera National Park

To the south of the park there are two of the park’s famous treasures – Lake Waikaremoana is noted for its scenic shoreline and waterfalls, and there is a smaller lake, Waikareiti. A huge landslide created these over 2000 years ago, which blocked the path of the river, creating the lakes. Beside the scenic environments, the park has some interesting things to do including a visit to the Aniwaniwa Museum which shows a lot of natural and cultural history of the area. The visitors can also do the most popular Lake Waikaremoana Track walk which is considered one of New Zealand’s Great Walks.

9. Whanganui National Park

It has an immense lowland forest, beautiful valley and many native plants and bird species include tui, kereru, fantail and tomtit. The centrepiece of the national park is the Whanganui River, one of the great waterways of New Zealand. The river starts in the Tongariro volcanic range and meanders all the way down to the Tasman Sea at Whanganui. The most popular activity in this national park is kayaking along the river which provides a great opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of flora and fauna.

10. Egmont National Park

Egmont National Park is on the western coast of New Zealand’s North Island. It was established as a national park in 1900 and covers an area of 33,534 hectares. Here the volcano Taranaki (or Mt Egmont as it is also known) rules supreme standing tall above the surrounding landscape. Beside it are two volcanoes of an earlier era: Kaitake and Pouakai. In good weather it is a challenging climb for the fit and well prepared. For those wanting a more relaxing experience there are beautiful walks through verdant forest to waterfalls, wetlands and excellent viewpoints. Standing as it does in isolation from other mountains it is one of the best parks from which to get an elevated view of another New Zealand – the rural heartland.

The Sydney Opera House has become, with the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney’s best-known landmark and international symbol. The base for the building was started in 1959 – years before the designs were finished. It took four years to design by Danish architect Jorn Utzon and by 1962 the designs were finalized and construction began. In total it took 14 years to build and was officially opened on the 20th of October 1973 by Queen Elizabeth II.

Utzon’s radical ‘sails’ design stretched engineering knowledge to the limit and imposed some unfortunate limitations on its functions, largely because the government insisted it house four halls, not two as he had planned originally. It cannot, for instance, house a grand opera because its opera stage is too small. The Sydney Opera House is nonetheless a fascinating building and heart of the city’s cultural scene. It opened with a concert hall, an opera theatre, a drama theatre and a recital hall, as well as restaurants and bars.

A fifth theatre was added within the structure in 1998. Nearby Accommodation – There are a few hotels which have unequalled views of the Sydney Opera House. Hotels like the Park Hyatt, which is situated right on the harbour’s edge. Others include the Quay Grand Suites Sydney, Shangri-La Hotel Sydney and The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney. The Sydney Opera House cost some $160 million to build and was paid for by the public who bought $10 tickets in a series of lotteries with a first prize of $1 million.

Utzon became involved in a massive political row with the government and left before the building was finished. In the year to June 1998 it attracted more than 1.4 million patrons. The Sydney Opera House conducts regular tours of the building daily, and walking paths lead back towards the city centre through the Botanic Gardens.

There is also a large diversity of fauna species that include deer, monkeys, giant porcupine, civets and all of Borneo’s hornbills. Gunung Mulu is certainly a perfect destination for adventure seekers, especially for those who likes cave exploration.

The Sarawak Cultural Village is another favourite destination in Sarawak state. This village is situated about 35 km from Kuching, capital city of Sarawak and tucked away on the foothills of Mount Santubong with a built up area of 14 acres. This traditional village also referred to as a living museum and depicts the heritage of the major racial groups in Sarawak and conveniently portrays the respective lifestyle. It boasts seven ethnic houses representative of the Malay, the Chinese, the Penan and the longhouses of the Bidayuh, Iban, Orang Ulu and the Melanau. These houses display their skills in making traditional handicrafts such as beading, wood-carving, bamboo-carving, pua-weaving, and also show the traditional methods of making sago, and crushing sugar cane. One of the attractions in this cultural village is to take a look at how the Penans make blowpipes and other hunting instruments. Another highlight is cultural dance performed by award-winning dancers and musicians present their famous multi-cultural performances. Some of the annual events held at the Sarawak Cultural Village include the Gawai Open House (Dayaks’ Harvest Festival) in June and the Rainforest World Music Festival, usually in July of each year.
